RN/LVN Nurse Refresher Program Options

Perry & Associates Healthcare Education offers Nurse Refresher options for eligible nurses who need didactic coursework, supervised clinical hours, or both. Students may choose the full Nurse Refresher Program, Didactic Only option, or Clinical Only option based on Texas Board of Nursing requirements.

Full Nurse Refresher Program

Cost: $1250

The Full Nurse Refresher Program includes both the didactic coursework and clinical component required for eligible RN/LVN nurses returning to practice or completing refresher requirements.


Includes:

  • Approximately 83.5 - 99 hours of online didactic coursework through Relias 
  • Required Texas continuing education contact hours 
  • Clinical preparation and documentation support 
  • 80-hour supervised clinical experience process* 
  • IV Therapy for Today - Basic course 
  • Background check 


Does not include:
“Righting a Wrong – Ethics & Professionalism in Nursing,” if required by the Texas Board of Nursing.

Full Nurse Refresher Program

Full Nurse Refresher Program

Cost: $925

The Didactic Only option is designed for students who need to complete the didactic portion of the Nurse Refresher requirement but do not need Perry & Associates to assist with the clinical portion.

Students complete approximately 83.5 - 99 hours of online, self-paced coursework through Relias.


Includes:

  • Online Relias didactic coursework 
  • 83.5 - 99 hours of refresher content 
  • Required Texas contact hours are included in the didactic coursework 
  • Official transcript of completed courses 
  • Certificate of completion 
  • Verification of Completion - Didactic Review Only 


Does not include:

  • Clinical coordination or clinical documentation support 
  • IV Therapy for Today - Basic course 
  • “Righting a Wrong – Ethics & Professionalism in Nursing,” if required by the Texas Board of Nursing 


Completion Timeline:
Students have 90 days from the date they begin the first module to complete the didactic coursework.

Full Nurse Refresher Program

Clinical Only Refresher

Cost: $895 

The Clinical Only option is designed for students who have already completed the didactic requirements for re-licensure and need assistance with the required 80-hour supervised clinical experience.


Includes:

  • Nurse Refresher clinical documentation process 
  • Clinical packet preparation and submission to the clinical site 
  • Request for placement, orientation/start date, and 80-hour clinical schedule *
  • Background check 
  • IV Therapy for Today - Basic course 


Important:
When seeking re-entry or reinstatement, students must provide verification that they have completed the didactic requirements for re-licensure in Texas, such as a transcript or certificate of completion.

Nurse Refresher Programs for RNs and LVN/LPNs

Full Nurse Refresher - $1250

Didactic Component

Students complete 83.5-99 hours of online, self-paced coursework through Relias. Included in the didactic coursework are 20 contact hours that meet Texas continuing education requirements, including the following required topics:


  • 2 contact hours related to nursing jurisprudence and nursing ethics 
  • 2 contact hours related to forensic evidence collection 
  • 2 contact hours related to older adults and geriatric populations 
  • 2 contact hours related to human trafficking prevention 


Students work at their own pace; however, the course must be completed within 90 days from the date the account is activated.


Clinical assistance options are described below.


Upon completion, students will receive:

  • Official transcript of completed courses 
  • Certificate of completion 
  • Verification of Completion - Didactic Review
  • Verification of Completion - Clinical Review

Clinical Placement Disclaimer

Perry & Associates Healthcare Education cannot guarantee an in-facility clinical placement. However, we have some affiliation agreements, and students may have several options to help them locate a placement that meets the required 80 clinical hours.


*Students with stipulations or reinstatement orders must secure their own clinical site.

Clinical Options

Creative Solutions in Healthcare Facility

Student-Secured Clinical Site or Extended Orientation

Creative Solutions in Healthcare Facility

Students may request clinical placement consideration at Creative Solutions in Healthcare facilities located throughout Texas. 


Important Clinical Eligibility:

To practice in a CSH facility, students must:

  • Have no stipulations or reinstatement orders for partner facility placement consideration 
  • Minimum Liability Coverage:
    $1,000,000 per occurrence or per claim / $3,000,000 aggregate. Coverage must include clinical training activities. 


Students who have stipulations or reinstatement orders must find their own clinical site.

Hendrick Health Facility

Student-Secured Clinical Site or Extended Orientation

Creative Solutions in Healthcare Facility

Students may request clinical placement consideration through Hendrick Health. Additional requirements and documentation may be required. 


Important Clinical Eligibility:

To practice in a CSH facility, students must:

  • Students must find a nurse in the department who will agree to be their preceptor.
  • Minimum Liability Coverage:
    $1,000,000 per occurrence or per claim / $3,000,000 aggregate. Coverage must include clinical training activities. 
  • Proof of personal medical/health insurance 

Hendrick Health Locations

Student-Secured Clinical Site or Extended Orientation

Student-Secured Clinical Site or Extended Orientation

Student-Secured Clinical Site or Extended Orientation

Student located clinical site. This may include a prospective employer willing to provide an Extended Orientation, which may be used as part of the required clinical hours to support reinstatement.


The student must apply to the Texas Board of Nursing for a Temporary Permit to practice. The student will practice as a nurse under their temporary permit with supervision.


The facility must complete the required clinical agreement and provide the appropriate supervised clinical experience.

Supervised Clinical Learning Experience - Only - $895

The refresher nurse must complete the 80 hours of supervised clinical learning experiences by providing direct, hands-on patient care. These experiences occur in actual patient care clinical learning situations. 


Perry & Associates cannot guarantee placement but has affiliation agreements with companies that own Skilled Nursing and medical facilities throughout Texas that will allow refresher students to complete the required 80-hour supervised clinical.

CLINICAL OBJECTIVES

Upon completion, the learner shall:

  • Use the nursing process as a systematic approach to providing nursing care.
  • Apply information from the basic sciences and nursing theory to patient care; demonstrate practical patient assessment skills.
  • Use appropriate communication strategies to communicate purposefully and effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Demonstrate skill and safety in providing patient care; comply with institutional policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate increasing ability to plan and manage care for one or more patients during an eight-hour shift.
  • Administer medications and treatments to assigned patients in a safe and timely manner.
  • Use current technology for documentation and provision of patient care.
  • Exhibit professional accountability and practice within the ethical and legal framework of nursing.
  • Demonstrate increasing self-confidence within all facets as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse.
  • Demonstrate ability to develop and evaluate the achievement of personal and professional goals.
  • Demonstrate self-responsibility and professional characteristics, including stability, dependability, initiative, judgment, and integrity.


You must have completed CPR certification, TB tests, and chest X-rays, and started your Hepatitis Vaccination. B vaccinations, and your flu, pneumonia, and other vaccinations must be current.


Students in this course should hold a current RN or LVN license in the USA or a Texas refresher permit.


Upon completion, students will receive:

  • Verification of Completion - Clinical Review Only
